Medicines like scopalamine, or Dimenhydrinate (also known as the brand name Dramamine) tend to have a relatively high success rate at curing motion sickness.  However, they also tend to make the person who is taking them very drowsy.  In fact, Dimenhydrinate is also sold, not only as a motion sickness cure, but also as a sleep aid.  The good news is that there are a variety of motion sickness cures that you may be able to use without the drowsiness.</p>
<p>To understand possible motion sickness cures, it is useful to know what causes motion sickness.  Motion sickness occurs when there is a conflict between what the eye sees and what the balance system in the inner ear feels.  Symptoms of motion sickness might include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, headache, and even cold sweats.</p>
<p>One thing you can do to cure motion sickness without the drowsiness might be to use the motion sickness wrist band products.  Some of these products rely on certain pressure points to relieve nausea.  Others send an electrical signal into the body that is thought to interfere with the disconnected messages between what the eyes see and what the body feels.  While these wrist bands may not work for every person, they may be worth a try.</p>
<p>Another useful motion sickness cure tends to be ginger.  Whether you have some ginger tea, ginger caplets, or even ginger soda, this herb may be able to help control the nausea or vomiting you are feeling, and should be able to do so without the drowsiness.  Other herbs that may be used to cure motion sickness are peppermint and black horehound.  There are also homeopathic remedies you can try, and some people have reported success with acupuncture or acupressure.</p>
<p>Motion sickness can be a very frustrating condition.  However, with some patience and through a process of trial and error, you may be able to find a motion sickness cure that works for you, without the drowsiness.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> Pregnancy-induced nausea, often called &#8220;morning sickness,&#8221; is one of the most common symptoms of early pregnancy.  Some studies suggest that as many as 70% of moms-to-be will have morning sickness at one time or another during their pregancy.  &#8220;Morning Sickness&#8221; is a bit of a misnomer, as nausea from pregnancy can happen at any time of the day.  The nausea may be severe and constant, or it might be sporadic and mild.  Regardless, morning sickness will typically ease up as your pregnancy progresses.</p>
<p> Researchers are not certain what causes nausea during pregnancy.  It may be that the rapidly changing hormone levels in your body, combined with an enhanced sense of smell and excess stomach acids are to blame.  Other theories suggest that nausea during pregnancy is caused by the buildup of hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin).  hCG continues to build up in your system until about the 12th week of your pregnancy, at which point the levels of hCG starts to decrease.  This theory seems to be most consistent with actual experience.</p>
<p> Not all moms-to-be will experience nausea.  Some research has linked a lack of nausea to an increased rate of miscarriage, but there have been other studies that suggest the opposite.  There is no conclusive research to suggest that a lack of morning sickness indicates any sort of problem with the pregnancy.</p>
<p> Nausea during the later stages of pregnancy can be caused by a variety of factors.  Sometimes, a pregnant woman who has problems with her liver will become nauseous, especially during the third trimester.  Just like any other woman, a woman in late pregnancy can have vomiting due to the flu or some other sort of stomach virus.  Also, because late pregnancy is often a time of pain and discomfort, the pain associated with late pregnancy can be responsible for nausea, as well.</p>
<p> Nausea during the later stages of pregnancy can also be a sign that a woman is going into labor.  Nausea can sometimes indicate a transition from false labor to true labor.  If this occurs prior to the 37th week of pregnancy, it is of particular concern, as giving birth before this time indicates a preterm labor.  </p>
<p> There are a variety of things that a mom-to-be can do to alleviate morning sickness.  They can include:</p>
<p> &#8211;  Avoid foods that are high in fat, especially saturated fats.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Avoid foods with strong smells that could trigger nausea.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Sea bands or motion sickness wrist bands may help some women who have morning sickness.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Eat small, frequent snacks and meals to avoid feeling either hungry or too full.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Use rice cakes or crackers to counteract nausea.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Make sure to keep hydrated.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Many women have had success using a variety of ginger products, such as ginger root supplements or ginger tea to help combat morning sickness.</p>
<p> &#8211;  Your nausea may be caused by the iron in your pre-natal vitamin.  If you believe this is the case, speak with your health care provider about other options.</p>

<p> For some people who go on a low-carb diet, however, this change can have negative side effects.  One of the most common side effects of going on a low-carb diet can be an upset stomach.  Consuming foods that are higher in protein, for example, might trigger food intolerance.  In fact, most foods that cause food intolerance are foods that are high in protein.  Some foods that might fall into this category could include eggs, nuts, fish, milk, chicken, cheese, and tomatoes.</p>
<p> Another possible reason that a low-carb diet can cause an upset stomach is that a low-carb diet can often be high in fat.  High-fat foods often will cause an upset stomach.  Foods on a low-carb diet that tend to be high in fat would include red meat products, pork, bacon, and milk if you are not using a low-fat or nonfat milk.</p>
<p> Artificial sweeteners can also cause an upset stomach.  Many people, when going on a low-carb diet, also switch to sugar-free beverages or foods that use artificial sweeteners.  Not all artificial sweeteners will have the same effect for everyone, however; you might be able to tolerate Splenda, for example, but not Nutrasweet. </p>
<p> Another possible cause for an upset stomach whole on a low-carb diet is dehydration.   Dehydration can lead to an upset stomach; to avoid getting an upset stomach, you need to make sure you&#8217;re drinking enough liquids.  Whenever possible, you should drink clear and cold liquids such as water or soda pops that are clear of colorings and caffeine.</p>
<p> However, being on a low-carb diet does not mean that you have to suffer from an upset stomach.  Through a process of trial-and-error, you can eliminate and add foods, watching for the ones that upset your stomach.</p>

One possible cause of indigestion that sometimes goes unnoticed is changes that may occur to your diet.</p>
<p> One of the ways that changing your diet can cause an upset stomach is through food intolerances.  If you change your diet significantly, such as by greatly increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables, you may have begun to eat a food that your body just doesn&#8217;t tolerate well.  While one of the most common food intolerances is lactose intolerance, it is possible for your body to refuse to tolerate just about any kind of food.  When changing your diet causes an upset stomach, you should try to identify any specific foods that seem to increase or set off your upset stomach.</p>
<p> Another possible way that changing your diet can cause an upset stomach is if you are switching to a different type of diet altogether.  If you are going low-carb, for example, you will be consuming a lot more protein and probably fats than what your body is used to.  Both of these, but particularly high-fat foods, can trigger an upset stomach.  </p>
<p> If you&#8217;ve decided to switch from regular soda pop to diet soda pop, this can cause an upset stomach.  The same holds true for switching to other low-calorie foods. While you often hear warnings about drinking water while in other countries, for example, you rarely hear warnings about drinking local water in different parts of your own country, which can have similar effects.</p>
<p> If changes in your diet have caused an upset stomach, you can use a process of elimination to try to weed out the specific foods or drinks that have caused it.  If your upset stomach is severe or persistent, or you cannot identify the cause, you might wish to speak with your health care provider. While many who people suffer from tension headaches are able to treat them with over-the-counter medications, these medications often do not work for people who suffer from migraines.  In addition, migraines tend to cause nausea and/or vomiting, which can make them more than just painful; they can be debilitating.</p>
<p> To understand the relationship between nausea and migraines, it is important to understand something about what migraine headaches are and what causes them.  A migraine will typically present itself as an intense pain on one or both sides of the head.  Often, it is in the front of the head around one eye or one ear.  The causes of migraines are not as clear as the causes of tension headaches.  Some theories suggest that migraines are caused by a problem with the flow of blood in the brain.  Others claim that migraines are caused by chemical changes in the brain that affect blood vessels.  Migraines tend to affect people that have a family history of having migraines, and who are between 15 and 55 years of age.  Migraines often become less severe as a person gets older.  In addition to nausea, migraines may affect a person&#8217;s vision, creating blind spots or temporary vision loss.  Migraines also tend to lead to fatigue, dizziness, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and sensory sensitivity.  In some rare cases, migraines are accompanied by fever.</p>
<p> Researchers don&#8217;t know exactly why migraines cause nausea.  There is some research that suggests that the same changes in the brain that cause the migraines actually cause the nausea and other symptoms of migraines, rather than the nausea being caused by the migraines themselves.  Others suggest that the intensity of the migraine pain causes the nausea.  The anxiety and distress caused by migraine pain causes acids to build up in the stomach, leading to nausea.  However, much more research is needed on this topic.</p>
<p> If you have a headache that is accompanied by nausea, you should probably contact your health care provider to see if you are having migraine headaches.  She may be able to help diagnose and treat your migraines.</p>
